Idaho is underrated. Actually, let’s rephrase that. The Idaho shred scene is underrated. With mountains like Bogus Basin, shops like Newt and Harolds, and plenty of friendly rippers loitering about the city, Boise deserves more credit. Sure, everyone knows that the stadium turf is blue, and the pigskin team is good, or whatever, but nobody recognizes that these kids rip. Luckily, the Campus Rail Jam Tour crew prides themselves on discovering talent in little-known snow zones across the country. Within the first day it was clear that the event had the full support of everyone in the local scene and the competition was going to go off! Sure enough, as the semi truck rolled into the Bronco stadium parking lot and the man-made mountain began to take shape, Boise inhabitants knew it was time to get down.

The event created a local media frenzy, with news and radio stations on-site, broadcasting live feeds of the event to the excited Boise public. With the sounds of Musclehawk filling up the Bronco stadium parking lot and the course prepped and ready, students poured into the lot curious to see what local riders and fellow classmate shredders had to show. As is par for the course, emcee “Uncle Moo” started the jam off with hilarious commentary and some Thizz dancin’.

Normally, a skier would be referred to as a “two-planker” or something of the sort in an article like this. However, Boise negated this nickname as one of the competitors broke a binding and continued to ski on only one “plank” throughout a majority of the contest (check the video). This one-footed wonder created quite a spectacle and gave the crowd the carnage they were begging for. Kudos, one-foot guy. Aside from the circus skiing there was some solid riding taking place, especially from third place finisher, Josh Karcher. Josh killed it all through the comp and took home a little swag and come cash to boot. Second place was awarded to Colter Brehmer, who was hooked-up with some Bonfire outerwear and a wad of greenbacks. Arlie Hoene took the cake and landed in first, stuffing his wallet with some Benjamins, and walking away with fresh new Coreupt skis.

The CRJT bunch has hung around snowboard crews from all around the country, and the Boise riders are some of the most genuine dudes (and dudettes) out there. It says a lot when the riders stick around after the contest to help tear everything down. And as it turns out, these aren’t just nice guys, but super talented rail rippers as well. Pat Miller ended up in third place, winning a jacket from Bonfire, followed by Chris Fowler in second taking home a new custom Ford snowboard and some cash. The man of the hour was Newt and Harold’s rider Mr. Jacob St. John. Jacob scooped up some cash, a new snowboard from Salomon Snowboards, some sick Celsius boots, and a limited CRJT x Neff collabo hat.

When the ladies began to drop it was clear that they meant business. Since only three females were competing, they were doing their best to one-up each other to bring home the bacon. In the end, Francesca Wilson ended up in third, walking away with some Roxy bindings and a big smile. Rachel Wheeler took the middle spot on the podium and scooped up some cash along with a custom board from Ford and a Roxy backpack. Wowing the judges and stomping stunts was Izzy Lalive, taking home first place, a Roxy banana traction board, some Celsius boots, and a bit of cash to get her to the next competition.

After the excitement, riders hung around for a few more drops on the setup and congratulated each other before heading out. Everyone walked away with their new custom shirts from Cricket Wireless, and smiles on their faces. By now, the Campus Rail Jam Tour crew has made it all the way Reno NV, so be sure to check out our upcoming events this week!
